It's a game, like the ones we invented as kids, just more complex.
There are kids who are ring leaders. The pushers get the group to move, follow the rules, and achieve the goals of the game; however contrived rules|they are. Then there are the followers who accept the rules because the game looks fun. Perhaps some become spirit leaders, something like cheerleaders. They forms Pep squads to push messages from the Pusher. This certainly is not just an American thing!
Oh, don't forget the grumblers. These are the kids who don't like the rules, don't think the game is so much fun, but there's nothing else to play. If ours is the only playground in the neighborhood then we play the game that is current. The grumblers like to grumble, but they don't really want to be pushers, ring leaders, or followers... do they?
This is a gross simplification of the much more complex South Park groups: Dicks, Pussies, and Assholes. The reverse Fourier transformation is: Pushers are Dicks; followers, Pussies; and the grumblers, Assholes. The math dictates a distribution with overlapping hybrids. Here are the possible Venn diagrams.
What the hell is a Dick-Pussy?! A leader-follower? Are they even possible?
If we know the change of Pushers over time, can we transform to get a frequency of Dicks? Can I use it to predict how often a day I have to envelop Dicks, gently fuck Pussies, or fist Assholes into silent pleasure?
Thus goes my Abstraction of complex behaviors into finite-dimensional vector spaces.
And as with all games, we have the roll of the dice spinning the vector!
In the long run, it's all random ending in a fixed non-Gaussian distribution stone.
