I got lost a bit in this here electronic jungle (20-May-2012). Man! It sure is dense and tangled here! How can I weave and move and compose a map underneath this visceral canopy? Did I mention it is hot and humid?
Here is another ghost I found. I read probably the last entry of a C.E. Chaffin. He is a physician in N. California who is/was? manic/depressive. His last entry was in November 2011. He had been posting semi-monthly since 2005, and then nothing since November 2011. Beginning in 2012, the circling e-vultures have swooped in and stole his ghost. His corporal self was either too weak or gone already. His decaying e-corpse now post regular advertisements for watches, handbags and cufflinks.
In his last "real" post, (http://cechaffin.blogspot.de/2011/11/depression-continued.html) he says he is just living to survive. It is depressing to watch depression and someone fighting to NOT kill himself. Drugs and therapy had no effect. He has a genetic element for depression, that is certain.
I read it and found a good lesson. I mark this spot on my map.
The lesson? Move & Engage. As Captain Picard says... Engage! As Aikidoist says, Enter. Always you are entering. There is no turning, really, just entering.
Move, engage, and enter.
I will collect Dr. Chaffin's ghost. I have the Ecto-Containment Unit. I stole it from Dr. Spengler and Dr. Stantz.

Could it be that we Progressives are wrong? Separation of church and state. We have always fought against putting the 10 Commandments in a public places, such as a state legislative building. We thought that this is a gross violation of separation of church and state. Here, the dominant religion is trying to impose it's religion on the minority. And we are right, in a sense.
However, could it be that there is reason for this need to instill morality in everything we do? I answer, Yes. It reduces the Fudge-Factor. As Dr. Ariely discussed, when we are given the option to cheat, we always cheat a little. A little bit of cheating by several billion people can result in huge cost, and if the catalyst is present, it triggers violence in reaction to the perceived cheating (even though we all had participated in that little bit of cheating)
Therefore, the obvious conclusion is to instill an honor code in all aspects of life and business where there are opportunities to cheat. It doesn't matter the religion. It doesn't even have to be a real code of honor. It could be a fake MIT honor code. What is required is just the idea. A sense or belief in morality must permeate the transaction. It magically reduces the Fudge-factor.
We need to put back the 10 Commandments in State Houses. We need to have a Rabbi read a prayer before opening the Stock Market. We need to pray every morning in the direction of Mecca, because when the belief is there, somehow, magically, it makes us cheat less. It makes us look as each others as brothers and sisters and not as G4 hotspots.
Compromise. The Founding Fathers of the US of America made them. A large population state gets the House, and small states get the Senate. Here, we compromise. We put the 10 commandments in the State House but also the Koran in the State House. For me it doesn't matter. Put a fake MIT honor code in granite there. It doesn't matter because whatever is there, God is there too when we want God to be there.
