Bible & Flag burning

I don't see any problem with an American having the right to burning the Bible and the Flag if he or she wants to.

The Bible and the Flag are just objects. Aren't they? Or do they represent two "something", and when you burn them you are desecrating those ideals.

I my opinion, the ideals that are associated with the Bible and the Flag are usually Love & Liberty respectively.

Certainly, people have burned the Bible & the Flag to express their feelings. Maybe they didn't realize it, but what they were trying to burn was Love and Liberty. Let's get rid of these two things because we think someone else is getting too much of these things while we don't get enough of these things. I know it isn't rational thinking, rather the visceral driving forces behind burning iconic symbols are usually fear, intolerance, and hate.

Living in the Great Experiment, Americans would love me no matter what I believed in, even if it is fear and in the end hate. They would be careful to let me have my liberty, just as long as my fear and hate doesn't drive actions that results in the death of others.

There we get to the crux of the problem. If the fear and hate of individuals were amplified (say via Fox News), and used to convince enough Americans to follow Fear & Intolerance, might they be able to implement actions that would save the Bible and the Flag, but burn away Love & Liberty from the soul of America?

Ironically, if I want to safeguard Love and celebrate Liberty, I will let you burn the Bible and torch the Flag. But it requires me to ask what you are truly trying to burn away.
