Back in Deutschland

I am back in ole Germany once again. A fun filled fully packed vacation.

Got to jog in Hyde Park, London; central city Philadelphia; the reservoir, Boulder; and near Mystic Lake, Connecticut.

Saw some friends. Drank some beer. Went to another wedding. And now I'm back.

Just finished 1984. Also finally finished Mrs. Dalloway on the trip.
I wanted to sit in Regent Park and finish the book, but unfortunately it was raining during my long layover in London so I couldn't do it. But then again, it wouldn't have been London.

It will take some time, but the avian flu virus will be able to live in the upper respiratory tract.

Migratory birds will spread the virus like wild fire.

Makes you think that migratory birds would be a ideal vehicle for a bioweapon.

Give any decent biochemist/molecular biologist access to certain databases, order some DNA oligos, a PCR machine and there you have it. weapon, schmeson.

OK. I over simplify but not much. Especially if said biologist wasn't too concerned about getting infected himself. Actually, you don't need all the fancy equipment. You just need some "patients" quarantined in a "hospital". Infect and select. There are plenty of "patients" in poor countries.

If I'm going to lose more liberty in this fight against "terrorist" then there has to be a more transparent government.

I would like to know how much we are spending on domestic espionage. What is the money breakdown. 1 million dollars per credible lead? Had we used that money on Afghanistan when the Russians left what kinda impact would we have had?

who do we have in custody, and why?

what is the breakdown in US oil consumption? industrial/shipping/consumer.

Why must we be in a continuous state of War? I know 1984 gives the answer.
But this is real life. I've read the book. You've read the book.

How can leaders and talking heads use the same con and succeed?
Are we all just stupid? No.

We all want happiness, which is diametrically opposed to freedom.
Thus we give lip service to Freedom, throw away our liberties to be happy.

Who can I betray to save my own life? To save myself from endless torture?
What can I betray? I can think of nothing. I can only offer up myself... and that kinda defeats the whole point of being tortured.

No need actually. Soon no torture. No frontal lobotomy. reeducation is simple. the mechanisms for memory formation are starting to be known.

at least in the beginning, let's keep it simple. combination of drugs and a form of electrocution should be able to wipe out all memory.
